Link your Aadhaar number with your mobile number to avoid deactivation of services

Linking of mobile number with your Aadhaar number has become important part of getting telecom services these days.

Aadhaar has becomes an important document not only to establish your identity and avail social security schemes from the government but also for financial services like filling income tax returns, (ITR), Keeping your bank account active, and even for investing in financial products like mutual funds and investing money in share market .

One of importatnt announcement form government in 2017 that customers had to link their mobile number with are many advantages of linking the two. For example, you can e-verify your ITR using Aadhaar. Here, an OTP is sent to the mobile number linked with your Aadhaar. You can even update personal details linked to your Aadhaar online using an OTP which will be sent to your registered mobile number. Downloading e-Aadhaar also requires verification via OTP which is sent to your mobile number.

As per a Supreme Court order and guidelines of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India, all existing postpaid and prepaid mobile customers must link their phone numbers with their Aadhaar through E-KYC verification by February 6, 2018, failing which their numbers will get deactivated.

Linking 12 digit unique identification number to mobile number is simple. It requires only few documents that are listed below:

A copy of the Aadhaar card
An active SIM card

Stepwise Procedure to Link Aadhaar number with SIM Card

A subscriber need not link Aadhaar with mobile if he opts for eKYC—an Aadhaar Based activation—by providing the biometrics at the time of taking the new connection. Apart from that, all the pre-paid and post-paid subscribers should compulsorily complete the e-KYC process. The e-KYC (know your customer) is an online method to provide the details. Below mentioned are the steps that will help a subscriber to link their Aadhaar number to the SIM cards.

The subscriber should visit the nearest centre of respective telecom operator
Submit the mobile number and Aadhaar card details
The store executive will provide 4-digit verification code that is an OTP to the subscriber’s mobile number from the re-verification application
Next, the subscriber has to submit the OTP to store executive and provide biometrics
The subscriber will receive a SMS after 24 hours. Reply “Y” to complete the e-KYC process
The government has also directed telecom operators to deploy iris scanning devices at service points. The facilities can be used by individuals who have difficulties in verifying the identities through fingerprint-based Aadhaar authentication. The individuals who apply for a fresh mobile connection also need Aadhaar-based e-KYC now. The linking procedure is same for all the telecom operators.
